About 1Africa Foundation

Building local community relationships can be the most important communication activity undertaken by an organisation, yet it is often overlooked.  1Africa Foundation is a division of 1Africa Consulting that focuses on corporate social responsible initiatives. The foundation’s focal point is community relations aimed at establishing and maintaining mutually beneficial relationships with the communities within which we operate.

As a result, we have partnered with Dear Bella, a South African sanitary towel brand run by Matefo Morakeng, which aims to bring quality, affordable sanitary towels to young girls across the country. We have pledged to sponsor 100 girls every month, and plan to increase our support as our business grows.

1Africa Foundation is also passionate about educating communities through storytelling, particularly regarding social issues that the country faces. In partnership with Prosperita Productions, 1Africa Foundation has created two documentaries: My Attractive Life and Ready to Quit.

About Dear Bella

An Attractive Life

Ontlametse Phalatse captured the imagination of many people all over the world as the first and only black female to be diagnosed with Progeria. Progeria is a rare disease that causes rapid ageing. Sadly, Ontlametse passed away just after her 18th birthday. It’s been a few months since Ontlametse passed on, and fittingly, a documentary about her life is in the final stages of production. This documentary will feature her mother, brother, friends, doctors and others who were close to the bubbly girl, affectionately known as Ntlami. It will explore everything from the frustrations of her family seeking medical help for her, to the selfless people who came to their aid to help guide them along the less beaten path to progeria diagnosis. Above all, it will focus on how Ontlametse faced life with progeria and went on to live what she called “an attractive life.”

Ready To Quit

Ready to Quit is a documentary which follows the lives of 13 people who are addicted to Nyaope (a street drug prevalent in South Africa), and their desperate need for assistance in overcoming substance addiction. It details their struggles, including them seeking support from their families as they check themselves into rehab facilities. The show gives insight into the journeys of these 13 Nyaope addicts and their fight against their addiction, putting faces to this heart-breaking social crisis.
